MOVE Project, with an action coordinated by Fundo Regional da Ciência e Tecnologia along with Université de La Réunion and SeaSketch team, held last May 3th an online workshop entitled “Decision support tools – SeaSketch as a support to Spatial Planning focused on Ecosystem Services”.
The event, framed within MOVE Task 4.2, was attended by 13 regional stakeholders from Azores, with relevance in the areas of environment, biodiversity, land use and ecosystem services. Public entities like the Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, the Regional Directorate for Environment and Climate Change (DRAAC), the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources (DRRF) and the Regional Directorate for Agriculture (DRAg), together with the regional research centers (CIBIO-Azores, GBA-cE3c, ITAA and Air Centre), the regional NGO’s ‘Os Montanheiros’ and SPEA, and the LabGeo- Engenharia e Geotecnologia, representing the private sector, marked their presence in the workshop.
This capacity building initiative kicked the discussion on the advantages and limitations of the decision support tools for the territory management, focused on ecosystem services.
For two hours, and after an introduction on the MOVE Project, the SeaSketch was introduced to the participants following a practical session, where all presents had the opportunity to operate the tool. In a second moment, the participants used SeaSketch to identify important areas for territory management, based on MOVE data in Terceira Island (Azores).
