Leibniz University Hannover stands for excellence in teaching and research, and attaches great importance to the interdisciplinary and international character of its work. The Institute of Physical Geography and Landscape Ecology aims at integrative application-oriented research and development on different spatial scales. Various process-related interrelations of landscape functions are studied with a special focus on European regions. Staff members have been coordinating and involved in various national and international R & D projects and are highly active in the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) and the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE). The Institute holds a considerable record of publications, research and teaching activities related to spatial GIS analyses, ecosystem conditions and services and their mapping.
Prof Benjamin Burkhard is coordinating the EU Horizon 2020 Coordination and Support Action ESMERALDA with project partners in all 28 EU member states, Norway, Switzerland and Israel. Many ESMERALDA partners are involved now in MOVE also, which thus can build on a strong network, experience and excellent methodological expertise to implement MAES iin the EU Outermost Regions and Overseas Countries and Territories.
